Winter Skin Tips

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Though it may not seem like it on some days, but winter is here and our skin needs special attention. Whether is being in our cozy homes, taking a stroll or getting fresh air sitting in the back yard. You can get sunburned in the summer and WINTER.

A few key points to think about to help get your through the winter:

  • Hydrate your skin. Start by drinking at least 8 cups of water and adding water topically by using hydrating serum or lotion, daily. This counteracts the drying effects that air conditioning or the heat has on your skin. Skin that is lacking the hydration it needs often becomes itchy, flaky, red, even inflamed and can also cause breakouts. It can even exaggerate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles due to shrinkage of skin cells.

  • Exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is peeling or sloughing off dead skin cells of the corneun (Epidermis) layer of the skin and is very beneficial for all skin types. When exfoliating, your skin texture is smoother and softer, your cell turnover rate increases, blood flow is stimulated, products penetration is improved and your makeup is smoother and more even.

  • Moisturize your skin. It is absolutely essential to provide your skin hydration that it looks healthy. It’s not just people with dry skin who need to do this, even people with normal, combination, and oily skin should also moisturize their skin. No matter the season, a moisturizer is essential for beautiful skin.

  • Protect your skin. Sunscreen is an obvious step in summer skin care, but just because the temperature drops below 50 doesn’t mean you can slack off. You can still get sunburned in the winter, even on a cloudy day. Some people refer to as “windburn” which is often actually sunburn. Apply a layer of broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher before you head out, taking care to cover your face and neck. Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours, even if you don’t feel like you’re sweating it off. You might even consider wearing tight-fitting goggles to protect your skin from sun and wind damage.
